HPad by Henri Beaumont is the latest impression pad to hit the shelves.
If you are not aware of what an impression pad does, then basically it is a pad which enables you to gain and impression of whatever had been written on the pad by a spectator. This information is peeked at during the routine which can then be revealed however the performer wishes.
Sized at A7 the HPad fits perfectly into your hand making it easy to use. The impression method is not a new concept but it does differ slightly from other versions (such as the Nomad Pad). The impression is peeked at at the back of the pad and the method of gaining the information is actually easy to do. It doesn’t look unnatural and the peek can be done in front of a spectator. 3 different peek methods are taught on the accompanying DVD.
Along with the gimmicked pad you are supplied with a special black marker pen which is essential to the workings. This is a Giotto marker brand which I am not familiar with. You could switch out the gimmicked part of the marker into a Sharpie (the magician’s choice of marker) if required but I think it would be quite fiddly to do due to the size of a Sharpie nib.
The DVD supplied runs through everything about the pad, pen and how to look after and replace each part of the pad and pen when they eventually run out. Although the explanations are dubbed in English they are all very clear and easy to understand.
Two routines are also performed and taught on the DVD. They are nothing groundbreaking or new but if you are new to mentalism and impression pads then they will get you started. An impression device is only limited by the performer’s imagination so there are literally hundreds of effects possible one you get to grips with the pad.
At £50 the HPad is cheaper than some other impression devices on the market. It’s well built, easy to use and is definitely worth a look at if you are in the market for a peek device.
